MONROVIA, Liberia — The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has dishonorably discharged two military personnel following the circulation of a viral video showing them manhandling a woman.
The two former soldiers were presented publicly for the first time following their dismissal.
During the presentation, the AFL Chief of Staff reportedly ordered the Liberia National Police to handcuff the former personnel.
The Chief of Staff also reportedly ordered the removal of the discharged soldiers’ families from AFL barracks and directed that they be taken to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex area to find their way home.
Describing the dismissed personnel as “bad apples” within the AFL, the Chief of Staff appeared to signal the military leadership’s disapproval of their alleged conduct.
The incident has drawn public attention to the conduct and discipline expected of members of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Further official clarification from the AFL and the Liberia National Police would be needed to confirm the full circumstances surrounding the reported actions.
