Former Captain of the Armed Forces of Liberia Jerry Kerkulah Kollie has accused the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party of promoting what he described as “bad tribalism” and deepening political divisions in Liberia.
Speaking during a radio interview in Monrovia, Captain Kollie expressed concern about what he characterized as growing political hostility between the two major political parties, arguing that partisan loyalty has overshadowed national unity, compassion, and the welfare of ordinary Liberians.
According to him, the rivalry has created an atmosphere where supporters of opposing parties show little concern for one another, even during illness, hardship, or personal tragedy.
He alleged that some political actors would rather see their opponents suffer than extend assistance or demonstrate humanity.
The former military leader pointed to incidents of violence and killings, including reported cases in Lofa County, which he attributed to the country’s increasing political intolerance and hostility during the 2023 elections.
Captain Kollie further argued that Liberia’s political leadership is failing to prioritize national development and peaceful coexistence, as political interests continue to take precedence over the needs of citizens.
Meanwhile, the Bong County Native called for the dissolution of both the CDC and the Unity Party, describing them as destructive forces that contribute to political instability and division. He maintained that Liberia needs leadership committed to serving all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, or background.
